Position Overview:

The Eisenberg Foundation is seeking an experienced, independent Director of Development to help take the Foundation’s fundraising program to the next level.

The Director of Development will serve as a frontline fundraiser and lead the Foundation’s annual campaign, manage the major gifts program and oversee the annual dinner and other special events. They will staff the Development Committee of the Board, working closely with the volunteer leadership to engage them in all fundraising activities of the organization, including major gifts, events and annual giving.

The successful candidate should embrace the mission of the organization and be excited about telling the story of our work to raise critical funds for the Foundation.

This position is full-time and will report to the Executive Director.

Required Qualifications, Characteristics and Skill Sets:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required, and at least 5-10 years’ experience in professional fundraising within a non-profit organization
  • Knowledge and proven experience in fundraising, particularly major gift fundraising
  • Strong interpersonal and writing skills
  • Skills to motivate and manage staff, board members and other volunteers
  • Desire to get out of the office in order to build external relationships and key partnerships
  • Self-starter who can independently initiate donor visits and fundraising calls
  • Goal and data driven professional with strong follow through on tasks
  • Positive attitude, concern for people and community
  • Presence, self-confidence, common sense and good listening skills.

Responsibilities:

Annual Campaign

  • Direct the annual giving program, including broad based appeals via direct mail, social media and electronic solicitations
  • Ensure all gifts are acknowledged promptly and adhere to the Foundation’s donor recognition strategy
  • Oversee communications and messaging in collaboration with Executive Director and outside consultants.

Major Gifts and Corporate Sponsorship

  • Manage an emerging major gifts program including identification, cultivation and solicitation of major donors;
    • Spend time out of the office meeting prospective donors and managing a targeted portfolio of major gift prospects
    • Prepare Executive Director, Development Committee members and board members to interact with major donors/prospects
    • Manage follow up from donor meetings, ensuring appropriate next steps are being taken
    • Work in partnership with marketing/communications consultant to create and prepare all necessary correspondence, stewardship reports, proposals and other materials needed to facilitate the cultivation and solicitation of major donors/prospects
    • Ensure all interactions with donors and prospects are being properly tracked.
  • Oversee and grow the year-round corporate giving program;
    • Manage an emerging portfolio of corporate partners
    • Identify new year-round corporate partners
    • Cultivate relationships in order to create sustainable partnerships
    • Prepare Executive Director, Development Committee members and board members to interact with current sponsors and prospects
    • Fulfill sponsorship benefits in adherence with existing corporate sponsorship program.

Special Events

  • Oversee annual fundraising events, including the Annual Dinner and Eisenopoly
  • Manage the Events Coordinator throughout the process of planning Foundation events
  • Coordinate the solicitation of corporate sponsorships and major gifts in support of events
  • Work in conjunction with the communications team to publish the annual program book to be distributed at the Annual Dinner and used throughout the year.

Database Management

  • Oversee the transition into a donor database
  • Ensure policies and procedures are in place for managing the Foundation’s database
  • Supervise Development and Administrative Coordinator in managing donor data, ensuring accuracy and maintaining integrity of the data
  • Analyze and prepare regular reports on the major giving program and all fundraising outcomes.

Administrative

  • Day to day supervision of the Development and Administrative Coordinator.
