Overview

Camp Ramah in the Poconos’ (CRP), part of the camping arm of the Jewish Conservative Movement, creates meaningful summer experiences for children from Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New Jersey in grades 2 – 10. Rooted in Jewish tradition and values, programs are designed to foster personal growth, develop strong relationships, and instill a lifelong love for Judaism. The overnight camp (Pocono Mountains), the day camp (Elkins Park, PA) and family programs provide immersive summer opportunities for children and families to encourage growth and independence as well as experience cultures of kindness, inclusivity, and joyful Judaism. Celebrating 75 years in camping, CRP is poised to enter its next phase of growth, innovation, and expansion.  

CRP seeks an experienced Director of Advancement to partner with and support the Executive Director in all areas of philanthropy and communications. Overseeing all aspects of development, the Director of Advancement will ensure growth and achievement of the organizations $1M+ Chai Campaign as well as build on the foundation of capital, legacy, major gifts, and alumni campaign efforts. This position reports to and collaborates closely with the Executive Director and supervises a Development & Alumni Associate and a Database Coordinator. Serving as a member of the senior team focused on CRP’s programmatic and operational objectives for the future, the ideal candidate will have 5+ years of relevant nonprofit fundraising experience, preferably in a Jewish camp environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and execute a comprehensive development plan including the annual $1M Chai Campaign, capital campaign, and the Ramah Legacy Society to include donor engagement, solicitation, marketing, communications, and related events
  • Partner closely with the Executive Director, campaign chairs, and the board of directors as a strategic partner and to support direct solicitations, providing guidance, research, and logistical support
  • Cultivate new portfolios of donors and expand alumni engagement
  • Provide professional leadership to the Development Committee and the Chai Campaign Chairs
  • Draft all fundraising and external communications
  • Supervise all aspects of the development department
  • Lead and manage all grant work to include writing, reporting, and oversight of all related follow-up
  • Seek, solicit, and conduct foundation grant research; identify new opportunities for partnership, build Foundation relationships, and manage all grant writing and reporting processes
  • Over the summer, spend time at the Winter office  (Bala Cynwyd) as well as the summer camp(s) in Elkins Park and the Poconos, (splitting time among all 3 locations) facilitating site visits and other camp needs

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 5+ years’ fundraising experience in a similar organization (summer camp strongly preferred)
  • Understanding and belief in the unique power of immersive Jewish summer camping experiences
  • “Hands on” attitude; willingness to experience summer camp and all that it entails
  • Ability and desire to build relationships, and work closely, comfortably, and happily with donors and board members, as well as year-round and summer staff
  • Varied solicitation, donor cultivation, and stewardship experience (5-figure solicitation experience preferred)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop excellent relationships with internal and external colleagues and stakeholders
  • Strong attention to detail; able to organize, prioritize, and execute responsibilities as well as manage multiple projects
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written, oral, and public speaking)
  • Strong knowledge of basic technology, including MS Office), Zoom, and donor database experience required
  • Authentic personal connection to the Jewish community, Israel and familiarity with Hebrew, the Jewish calendar, and lifecycle
