Overview

Camp Tel Yehudah, in Barryville, New York, inspires Jewish and Zionist youth from around the world to experience and embrace the diversity of the Jewish people in a joyful and diverse community, while training them to become leaders who effect positive change for the Jewish people, Israel and the world. Camp Tel Yehudah is the national teen camp of Young Judaea and is preparing for its 75th summer!

Camp Tel Yehudah seeks a creative, dynamic fundraising professional with strong organizational and development skills to serve as its inaugural Director of Development (DoD). As a collaborative partner to Young Judaea’s development team for the coordination of development campaigns, prospect management and messaging, the DoD is responsible for creating and implementing the development strategy which includes the annual campaign, scholarship funds, capital and legacy campaigns, major gift fundraising, events, and direct mail solicitations. A near-term priority will be for the DoD to design, launch and implement a multi-year capital campaign.

Reporting to the Director of Camp Tel Yehudah, the DoD will be a member of their senior management team and will also be a member of Young Judaea’s development team. The DoD is responsible for achieving revenue goals established in collaboration with the Director and the Board of Directors of Camp Tel Yehudah.

The ideal candidate brings a minimum of 8 years of proven relevant experience with a significant focus on major gift fundraising, impeccable relationship building skills, and a significant understanding of the impact and unique value of a camp environment. Experience with capital campaign fundraising is a plus; familiarity with capital campaign work is necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify potential donors, and develop strategies for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship in collaboration with key professionals and lay leaders
  • Design and implement a robust multi-year, multi-million-dollar capital campaign to transform Camp Tel Yehudah’s facilities
  • Responsible for the solicitation of gifts for the annual, scholarship, legacy and capital campaigns
  • In conjunction with the Director and appropriate program staff, write, edit, and submit grant proposals and reports as needed
  • Craft and prepare materials needed for development communications including newsletters, eblasts, appeals, campaign materials and website language; oversee production of all materials
  • Acknowledge and enter gift data; maintain donor records in collaboration with accounting and data managers
  • Plan and organize development-related special events throughout the year
  • Partner with the Director and Board Chair to plan and support relevant lay committee meetings as needed; staff the Board’s Development Committee and subcommittees
  • Work closely with board members to engage them in fundraising efforts, utilize relationships, and develop leadership gifts

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree required; relevant graduate degree preferred
  • 8+ years of fundraising experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail oriented with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Advanced CRM software skills, Salesforce experienced preferred
  • Comfortable working independently or as part of a team
  • Deep knowledge of Jewish philanthropic community
  • Passion for Jewish camping and/or Jewish education highly desirable
  • Willingness be regularly present at camp during the summer, work occasional weekends and evenings, and travel as needed to meet with donors
  • Proven record of successfully developing and implementing fundraising campaigns and maintaining long-term donor relationships
  • Experience as a senior leader who has supervised consultants and staff
