Founded in 1998, the Foundation for Jewish Camp, (FJC) works to grow, support and strengthen the Jewish camp movement.  Leveraging over $15M in annual philanthropic giving,  FJC scales programs and resources that benefit more than 300 Jewish day and overnight camps (serving 180,000 youth, teens and young adults) across North America each summer

FJC partners with Jewish camps and summer experiences to promote excellence in management, programs and enrollment by providing thought leadership, professional development, funding, research, data and inspiring innovation in the camping field.  Led by the values of community mindedness, excellence, joy, agility, social responsibility and imagination, FJC is the central advocate and resource for Jewish camps to thrive.  By helping access untapped funds and resources, FJC supports camps in delivering  the best possible Jewish experience for families and helps camps survive when times are tough.

FJC seeks a Director of Major Gifts to build and manage a national donor pipeline and portfolio, connecting  and engaging donors and prospects across the country. The Director will cultivate current and new donors to drive annual gifts and participation in special campaigns to support the efforts of FJC.  Supervised by the Vice President of Advancement, the Director of Major Gifts will partner closely with Financial Resource Development (FRD) colleagues and lay leadership.  Successful candidates will have solicitation and donor stewardship experience, understand fundraising operations, moves management, and be able to successfully work both independently and on a team.  The Director will collaborate and actively participate in organizational initiatives beyond development as appropriate.

Compensation Range

$125K - $140K

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement proactive strategies to identify, engage, and steward a pipeline of current and prospective donors capable of making transformative major gifts of $10k+
  • Secure new, renewed, or increased annual gifts through face-to-face meetings, personalized proposals, and strategic outreach
  • Build and manage a portfolio of 100 - 150 major gift prospects and donors, maintaining consistent personal contact to deepen relationships
  • Partner with the  FRD team to create individualized cultivation and solicitation plans tailored to each prospect's interests and giving capacity
  • Prepare compelling proposals, briefings, and presentations that inspire major gift commitments
  • Ensure exemplary stewardship of donors through tailored communications, recognition opportunities, and cultivation events
  • Meticulously track and report on all activities, contacts, and gift commitments in Salesforce
  • Collaborate across teams to remain current on FJC’s programs, priorities, and key impact areas

Qualifications & Skills

  • 5+years of successful major gift solicitation experience
  • Proven track record of securing 5-6 figure gifts 
  • Experience working with lay leadership and committees
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to develop excellent relationships with internal and external colleagues and stakeholders
  • Strong attention to detail; able to organize, prioritize and execute responsibilities as well as manage multiple projects
  • Familiarity with project management and fundraising databases (Asana, Salesforce) skills preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written, oral, and public speaking)
  • Proactive and motivated with the ability to work independently and on a team
  • Passion for FJC’s mission, Jewish community, Israel and familiarity with Jewish calendar and lifecycle  
  • Willingness to travel (up to 30%)
